For a “studio film,” The Purge is surprisingly edgy.
The premise—a 12-hour period where all crime, including murder, is legal so the nation can be safe, strong and prosperous—is probably hella unconstitutional.
But…Yo!…how ’bout that premise? Arguably an all-time great “What if…?”
Big takeaways from the film: White children of privilege are the worst. Their moral ambitions will cause trouble for you. Or their deluded pseudo-morality will be your trouble.
Also, people of privilege, in general, are the worst.
Finally, our state may be kinda failing. But we’re not THAT failed. Right?
