Well, it’s that time of year again. This morning, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced their nominees for the 2012 Academy Awards. In what seems to be a recurring trend, this year, the number of nominees is still more than five — but less than ten. I guess this logic allows them to nominate those films they see as “best,” but it seems that the Academy has shafted Shame here. I know they’re prudish, disconnected, and will only praise films that are uberviolent and associated with crucifixion, but Shame was far from arthouse porn and deserved some recognition. And, if they weren’t going to nominate the film, ignoring Michael Fassbender’s performance is a travesty — one that rivals the Ryan Gosling’s exclusion last year. Either way, there’ll be plenty of time for debate over the next four weeks, but here’s your list replete with seventeen syllables:
